Today I’m showing off this snazzy Levis Denim Jacket that I thrifted for – wait for it – TWENTY DOLLAS. THATS RIGHT. The original price was listed at 80 dollars so If you couldn’t tell I’m a little hyped about that haha. Before I get into the outfit I thought I’d share a bit of my thrifting tips so you can go find that perfect steal.
Go in planning to spend a lot of time
Im definitely someone who gets tired of shopping easy, I hate being in crowded areas and much prefer online shopping BUT If you want to find your new holy grail item be sure to be well rested, well fed, and ready for your hunt!
Don’t be afraid
Check out that shirt on the ground or grab that bright shirt – You never know how something’s going to look until its on so be adventurous! (Just don’t forget to wash your close really well because .. ew)
This Jacket was in the men’s section AND in the XL section but I grabbed it anyways. Clothes are clothes and sometimes the best finds are outside of the women section.
And those are some of my tips for popping tags! pretty simple tips I know but you don’t always remember it when you head into overcrowded and most likely musty thrift shops LOL.
Now onto the Outfit!
Growing up in chilly Washington there’s nothing I love more than oversized jackets. They’re perfect for layering and act as a blanket if they’re big enough. My tips for not looking like a marshmallow being swallowed alive is to make sure everything under it is form fitting. I paired my jean jacket with a simple black tank top and skinny jeans to match. Since I’m pretty short (ok like REALLY short) I made sure to add some black booties so it didn’t look like I was drowning in denim. And there’s the look for you – Pretty simple with an extra lift from the leather booties because is it really fall if this spud doesn’t break out the booties?
That’s all for now! Hope everyone has a great weekend 🙂
As you can tell by the title this post is different from my usual outfit posts. Since your girl is a college student, my budget for home decor and other cute things are at a minimum. SOOO, If i can make it I much rather spend half the money on supplies as opposed to dropping my non existent money on ready made things. I’ll be posting all my DIY journeys here so you can see me make or fail to make some things and maybe get inspired in the process, So let’s get started!
I bought wooden signs, fall floral bunches, mini pumpkins and some leaves/vines all from Michaels for under $25 ! (Michael has sooo many coupons be sure to use them!!) I stuck with and orange and dark red color palette but, feel free to choose what screams fall to you. Not pictured are some paint markers, white paint, glue gun, and mod podge which you know this crafting queen already had.
The next steps are pretty much up to you or if you’re like me – what you find on pinterest. I found some quotes online and used paint markers to write them down. For some added flare I painted some signs white so I was able to use gold on top. Also fail of the DIY, make sure you plan out what you’re writing prior because I winged it which is why the hand lettering is kind of trash… I promise my handwriting looks way better with brush markers as opposed to paint markers 😥
After your paint dries I basically tear apart the flower bunches and vines so that they are able to glue flat onto your surface. I cut the pumpkins in half as well so that they were able to stick on better. I recommend using the glue gun for the thicker pieces and the mod podge for the fabric pieces.
And that’s the DIY! I’m sad that I screwed up the handlettering but happy with the fun project overall! Tell me your favorite one below 🙂
(Now that i’m over my fall puns get ready for all the Halloween puns)
This blog post is probably going to be the most simple one I post because I originally went to this pumpkin farm by my house for fun and last minute decided to have a mini photo shoot. Hooray for the boyfriend having the fancy shmancy Iphone7 so we’re always photo shoot ready ha ha. I honestly went to the farm to just buy some corn and veggies so YOU BET I will be back to take more pics 😉 (and get lost in the cool corn maze lmao so stay tuned for an update on that)
The past couple of outfits I’ve been posting have been super girly so I thought I’d change it up to what I normally wear. Now I love flowy shirts, lace, and floral but because I live in Washington, it’s too dang cold for that. Also nothing screams hipster Seattleite more than wearing a flannel and that’s exactly what I did that day. I tend to go for flannels that are more of a Boyfriend Fit because I’m a fan of comfort and layering – so what better flannel to pick than one straight out of my boyfriends closet! (thanks dude) Not going to lie since I wear so many oversized things I tend to sneak to my boyfriends side of closet and borrow some things as you’ll see some more in my next outfit post 😉 Under the flannel I wore a simple cropped sweater and paired it with my favorite leggings perfect for frolicking through the pumpkins. Added my combat boots for that typical fall aesthetic and ta da ! – a simple and comfortable outfit perfect for picking enough pumpkins to make your perfect squash squad.
And there you have it folks! I’ll be back soon with a new post that is little different than what you’re used to so keep an eye out 🙂
it’s officially time to break out the pumpkins, sweaters, and Halloween movies for fall and I don’t know about you but I’m pumped! Before I break out the cozy layered outfits I have a summer meets fall outfit because Seattle decided to randomly have a 80 degrees day in the middle of September which is basically unbeleafable.
I decided to take advantage of the warm weather and wear this off the shoulder dress I got from Target. To keep myself in the fall mood I purposely chose this mustard yellow dress to match the changing leaves color scheme. Also if you couldn’t tell this dress just screams “Awkward Spud” because of the florals and frilly sleeves. I know my last post was about a floral outfit but hey, I keep falling for them (ok last fall pun sorry lool). I’m currently back in University so my outfit choices may be questionable throughout the week due to pure laziness but, this dress made it look like I put effort into looking nice without being overly dressy. I layered a jean jacket on top when it got chilly to keep the look basic. I paired these flats from Payless that you’ve seen before and will probably see a lot this season because of the brown suede. And that’s the outfit! A simple outfit for those of us who are secretly holding onto summer but love fall just as much!
Before you leaf! (hehe couldn’t keep it in)
There are new changes and content coming to The Awkward Spud, I’ve been putting off blogging to plan out where I wanted to take this blog and I think I’m finally happy to how this page is going to turn out so don’t forget to keep coming back 🙂 Have a great day everyone!
I really hope you’ve watched The Devil Wears Prada or else my title makes absolutely no sense. Also what are you doing reading a fashion blog if you HAVEN’T seen this movie. I’m going to need those of you who haven’t to stop and watch the movie before continuing with this post 😉
Anyway, I’m back with another outfit that goes with my life motto of “cute and comfy”. For awhile now I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of cute everyday loafers, because they tend to dress up any outfit while having the same comfort as a sneaker. I found the pair in this outfit from Forever21 and while I wouldn’t consider them an everyday wear because they’re white and prone to my clutsy messes, I’m still happy i found them! I wore some simple denim shorts I got from Hollister to keep it a little casual and then paired it with this flowy top from Forever21. I love the deep red floral embroidered detail and it being a crop top because what other style do i wear haha. This outfit allows me to dance around parks freely while still having a good balance of casual and dressy.
I’ll be traveling again the next couple of days, this time for leisure and not for school so I should have more posts soon! In the mean time hope all of you are enjoying the rest of your summer before back to school. Happy Friday!
Hey everyone! It’s been sooo long that my pun game is real bad. You know a pun isn’t good when you have to explain your title means I love stripes.. because get it olive skirt? Yeah I know I need to step my game up. In the mean time while I think of better puns y’all can read about this outfit that I’ve been taking forever to post 🙂
Summer is almost over and Seattle is definitely not this sunny currently because of Canadian wildfire smoke that has been chilling in our air. Buuuut my love for this outfit is still the same and I decided to finally stop being a lazy spud and write about. The top is a simple off the shoulder tee from Brandy Melville that I’ve been recently obsessed with because of its simplicity in being able to match any outfit. If you’ve yet to own a Brandy Melville shirt then girrrll you’re missing out because they’re so soft and comfortable. The skirt is from good ole Forever21, the buttons add that extra trendy detail and the color makes it a versatile piece I can style into fall. Tied the outfit together with some wedges from Charlotte Russe but, think some simple sneakers would work just fine too!
And that’s the outfit! Simple pieces styled together to look like I tried a little harder to look cute that day when in reality I was still going for comfort. I know wedges may seem worrisome to some but for me, they’re actually really comfortable so give them a try because Charlotte Russe had these for pretty cheap! Sorry for the long delay again btw, I’ve been studying abroad but, now I’m back and ready to put out more content for y’all 🙂 Also here’s a short youtube video to show more of the outfit and awkward spud poses!
Happy Saturday! Hope everyone is having a great weekend, meanwhile i’m back with another outfit post for you all !
If you couldn’t tell by my Instagram feed lately I’ve been REALLY into greenery lately, my aesthetics have basically just turned into my mom’s living room with all her unnecessary plants (typical asian mom). Sooo I decided to shoot an outfit with earthy tones and pieces I think are perfect for the summer.
For the past two winters I’ve been addicted to anything olive, literally my whole closet was black, white, and olive LOL. For this outfit I decided to go within the same family but for a more muted green. This dress I got from Forever21 for $12 was the perfect color and my favorite part was the slightly haltered neckline. The flowiness of the dress kept it comfortable enough for summer outings but the halter neckline makes it look less of a casual dress If you wanted to dress it up with a pair of heels.
I opted for a more casual look not only because I can’t walk in heels haha but also because I’ve been really into detailed flats and sandals. These flats were from the best place in the world, Target, and I think deep browns paired perfectly with the pale green. The detailed lace up portion of the flats add more to an otherwise “boring” outfit but, still keeps it nice and comfortable. However I’d avoid them if you plan on lounging around because I bet the tan lines on these shoes aren’t that flattering…
That wraps up the outfit! Hope you enjoyed this post and as usual I’ll be back next week with another outfit! Have a great day~
